Travel Documents & Entry Requirements 

• Passport: You will need a passport to travel outside of the United States of America. Please ensure that your passport does not expire for at least 6 months after the trip. Airlines will not allow you on the plane if your passport expires within 6 months. (Example: if our trip dates are August 2026, your passport must be valid through at least February 2026.) 

• eTA (Electronic Travel Authorization): All travelers must apply online for a Kenya electronic travel authorization (eTA) before traveling. This replaces a visa and must be approved prior to arrival. (included in trip cost) - Travel Insurance (including medical evacuation). Not required for entry into Kenya, but required to travel with ABH Solutions. 

Health & Immunizations 

• Typhoid: Recommended due to food/water exposure risk (local pharmacy)

• Malaria: Risk exists in areas including Nairobi; consult for preventive meds

• Consult a healthcare provider 4–6 weeks prior to travel.

• Routine Vaccines: MMR, Tdap, Polio, Influenza

• Hepatitis A

• Polio booster

• Meningococcal Meningitis

• Rabies (if outdoor or rural travel planned) 

*The general rule of thumb is to make sure that you are up to date on all routine immunizations. Typically, we recommend typhoid vaccination, which can be given as a shot or as an oral medication, and it is recommended to always travel with malaria medication, even though our organization has never used it during its many visits to Kenya. That said, everyone’s health needs are different, so consult your primary care provider or a travel clinic to determine what is best for you and your family. * 

Financial Preparations

• Currency: Kenyan Shilling (KES)

• Notify bank/credit cards of travel dates to avoid card issues

• Add an international phone plan or purchase a SIM card in Kenya. Most cellular coverage has unlimited text but may charge for phone calls.

• Hotel WIFI available. (Alternatives to adding international service on your phone are to utilize hotel WIFI for apps like FaceTime, FB Messenger, WhatsApp, Google Meets, etc where you can make free calls while over WIFI)

• Budget for meals and souvenirs
